'Nature, Nurture & Social Responsibility.'
In 1987, whilst raising her daughters and witnessing the nation's health deteriorate out of control, founder Dounne Alexander, reflected on her ancestors superior quality of life and pondered on what they knew for sure about family values, health and longevity - and realised then that the nation's health could be restored if its people followed the same path.
Unlike the United Kingdom today, where the National Health Service and local doctors are always at hand, in her ancestors time Caribbean women (especially wives and mothers) had to learn the essential life skills that covered all aspects of natural healthcare... and because of this sickness was rare.
So Dounne created GRAMMA'S - in honour of her late grandmother who saved her life (as a premature baby), given only one month to live. Her grandmother's strong faith, intuition, tender loving care, and incredible knowledge of the health enhancing benefits of natural foods & folklore herbal remedies; enabled Dounne to survive against the odds. She was also fortunate to have spent most of her formative years under her grandmother's watchful eye, care and guidance; and learnt many valuable life lessons based on love, respect, selflessness, sharing and caring for 'oneself, family and community'. Dounne therefore based GRAMMA'S ethos on her grandmother's loving principle of nature, nurture and social responsibility.
